Firearms
Defensive Ware
Back in 1958, when Josh Randall was bounty hunting with his super-cool "Mare's Leg", nobody was too concerned about Federal Firearms Law, and I doubt that any of the firearms manufacturers needed staff lawyers employed in their design department. But, that was then, this is now:

The NRA
Bad Decisions
The National Rifle Association is an American institution that is worthy of the support of every freedom-loving American citizen, and it is also an institution that is worthy of adult leadership and adult decision making.
The withholding of exhibit space stands in contrast to one of the prime reasons for attending the NRA Annual Meeting, the opportunity for gun owners to immerse themselves in an unrivaled gathering of gun industry competitors.... Artificially limiting what is allowed to be presented — and by whom — limits NRA member choices.
Bear in mind that the majority of the NRA's five million members are adults who despise tyranny or megalomania in any form, especially when it comes in the form of an expedient display of juvenile behavior. Now, I'm not trying to compare the current NRA leadership with North Korean leadership; you can probably do that on your own.

Seamanship
"The Devil Ain't Lazy"
.... "he works 24 hours a day" — so the old country song goes. But, sometimes people are a little too lazy.
How many sailor's have gotten into trouble with, that greatest of all labor-saving devices, roller furling — especially in high wind?
Here's a recent example of what can happen when you quit before the trip is over, and furl the main too soon:
Everyone in the crew was washed safely into the beach and suffered various non-life-threatening injuries, according to reports.
Remember, "the superior sailor uses his superior knowledge to avoid situations requiring his superior skill."

Another Violent Weekend in Chicago
What is the difference between corrupt liberal left-wing socialism, and staggering incompetence? Not much.
As the mayor of one of the largest cities in the United States, when your city has a declared "neutral ground", that's good evidence that you are in the wrong business!
Sad.

'Fast and Furious' still festering
Immigration officials had deported Heraclio Osorio-Arellanes seven times before he returned illegally as part of a Mexican “rip crew” that was in the business of robbing other drug and human smuggling operations.
On December 14, 2010, using a rifle that had been "walked" into Mexico by U.S. officials, Osorio-Arellanes opened fire on the Border Patrol team that had been dispatched to interdict the “rip crew”, killing Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.
Last week, Border Patrol BORTAC (Border Patrol Tactical Unit) agents arrested the accused killer, Osorio-Arellanes, in Mexico.
“...this arrest puts us another step closer to getting those accountable for Brian’s senseless death that could have been prevented,” [Brian's brother] Kent Terry explained. “But the real criminals that President Trump and Attorney General Sessions need to look at are Eric Holder, Thomas Brandon, Bill Newell, and the rest who started this scandal known as Fast and Furious.”
“Mr. Trump promised me he would open the books in Brian’s death and now is the time,” an exasperated Kent Terry stated. “My family has waited long enough...

Looking Up

One of the advantages of living near the "Cradle of Naval Aviation" and the home of the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels is the many informal air shows that appear overhead. On Sunday, April 9, 2017, the Blue Angels were joined by the French flight demonstration team Patrouille Acrobatique de France.

Culture
Rotary International
Those who prize America’s Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, or who simply appreciate the many benefits of owning firearms, are no longer welcomed within the group’s ranks.
What is the difference between an 'American Institution', and just another 'institution' in America?
Ideology
It used to be that Rotary International, and similar institution's, were considered a form of melting pot — the essence of American culture; a place where differing views could amicably meet and coexist; it is now obvious that was nothing more than a charade. Rotary International is now lock step in the rhythmic march toward cultural polarization.
In my opinion, Rotary International has voluntarily removed itself from the ranks of freedom loving America.
As the late John McLaughlin used to say: "Bye Bye!"
