When sailing in high wind, everyone likes to have the wind at their back; sailing downwind is much more enjoyable, and usually a lot dryer, than beating your way upwind. But, sailing downwind comes with the cost of increased vigilance on the part of the helmsman. An accidental jibe can be catastrophic when the tailwind is high……

To give you an idea of the complexity of the shot, it is calculated that ‘elevation' had the bullet flying 200 feet above the ground at the 1000-yard mark on its travel from gun to target…. And then there was ‘windage’ to deal with!
