Church History
Reformation Day
On October 31st every year, Protestant's around the world celebrate their distinction from the Roman Catholic Church. Yet, how many of them actually know the history behind their separation? What were the original Protestants protesting?
The Protestant Reformation is a story of transformation—a transformation from hate to love, from slavery to freedom, and from blind faith to a glorious discovery of the truth in Jesus Christ. In the following video, Dr. R.C. Sproul summarizes the main catalyst for the Protestant Reformation and the mission of Ligonier Ministries more than five hundred years later.
The old adage "you can't know where you are going until you know from where you came" may not ring true in every situation, but the sorrowful state of biblical orthodoxy in Protestant churches today demonstrates the value of this old proverb. The events culminating in the Reformation of the sixteenth century occurred in response to the dilapidated treatment and understanding of God's Word extant in the Roman Catholic Church.
The man who challenged the errant status quo and sparked a flame of change that still burns today: Martin Luther.

Safety: Carbon Monoxide Awareness
Reminder - The Silent Killer
It’s the time of year to be aware of the air quality in closed spaces. In the quest to keep out the cold air, be aware of what you are keeping inside.
Carbon Monoxide (CO):You can’t see it or smell it. It can and will kill when allowed to accumulate in a living space! Make sure that there are no leaks in any exhaust system, and that all system’s are properly vented.
• Monitor the air in living spaces; CO Detectors are inexpensive.
• Know the Symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning!
• NEVER use a charcoal grill to heat a living space!

Marksmanship
Speaking of Shooting Fast
At Smith & Wesson’s new headquarters in Maryville, Tennessee, on Friday, October 6, Jerry Miculek set the NRA World Record for hitting six steel plates with a 9 mm revolver at seven yards within 1.88-seconds.
Now that’s fast!

Marksmanship
Field of View
Recent events have renewed, for most of us, our appreciation of living in a country that guarantees, in writing, the right of its law-abiding citizen’s to defend themselves with arms, and most venue’s do not interfere with a citizen's ability to do so—to defend themselves from deadly threats. We do it with guns.
Some important rules apply to the use of arms, and it behooves every citizen to know the rules. It’s a blemish that the rules of responsibility and safe marksmanship are not taught nation-wide in the government school system; hopefully, if we last long enough, a trustworthy curriculum will see life… But I digress.
When it comes to using guns for self-defense, the late Bill Jordan used to say “speed is fine, but accuracy is final”—a succinct way of saying that getting a shot off is not the ultimate goal; stopping the threat by getting an effective hit on target (without delay) is the ultimate goal.
Another, more recent, piece of sage advice along these lines comes from Ken Koch at Guns Magazine:
You can’t miss quick enough to win a gunfight, but you can hit slowly enough to lose one.
Keep your balance.

Weather
Storm 93
It looks like this system is headed our way; predicted to be somewhere near Pensacola at mid-day Thursday (12OCT) with a pressure of around 1005 millibars. Some of the models show an offshore track paralleling the coast. We’ll see.

Southwestern Gulf of Mexico (AL93): Updated: Showers and thunderstorms remain disorganized this afternoon in association with a broad area of low pressure located over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. Data from an Air Force Reserve Reconnaissance aircraft investigating the system has so far found the circulation remains elongated and not well-defined, with maximum sustained winds of only 20-25 mph. Based on the current structure, additional development is becoming unlikely before the system merges with a developing frontal boundary over the western Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday.
Watching.
UPDATE: 11 Oct PM This system has weakened to mostly rain; the peak effect for our area is forecast to be rain and NE wind of 23mph, with gusts as high as 38mph around 2200 tonight,
