Sabine Pass Light

Shown above during its glory days in the mid-1950's, the Sabine Pass Light in Cameron Parish, LA near the Texas border was built in 1856; it proudly made it through the Civil War, and into the middle of the 20th Century before being abandoned and left to vandals and hurricanes.
Today, this is what remains:

Rumor Has It

Rumor was crowned America's top dog Tuesday night when, a year after a near miss on the very same green carpet, she came out of retirement to win best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club.
Cheered loudly all around the ring by a packed crowd at Madison Square Garden, she's just the second German shepherd champion at the event that began in 1877.
"Unbelievable," handler and co-owner Kent Boyles said.
In a year that's seen lots of late, startling twists in sports — think Patriots, Cubs and Cavaliers [not to mention a presidential election] — Rumor pulled something of a shocker. She'd been at home in Wisconsin for months, a house pet headed toward having puppies, when she suddenly jumped back into the show ring in January.
Congratulations Rumor!

Education
The Pathology of Freedom
With all due respect to Col. Jeff Cooper, the word "hoplophobia" seems too nice of a word when used to describe the decision makers at the University of Massachusetts; the term "dumb-asses" seems more appropriate in this case. I think that anyone familiar with the 4-H would agree.
The goal of 4-H is to develop citizenship, leadership, responsibility and life skills of youth through experiential learning programs and a positive youth development approach.
Freedom is only one generation away from dying, when we quit teaching the responsibility that goes with every aspect of it.

Hearing protection is just not "reasonable" to some people
Is it because their idea of "reality" is based on Hollywood fantasy, and an assumed danger that mysteriously lurks behind the evil Hollywood "silencer?" That is more than likely the case.
And, how unreasonable it is for "everyday Americans" to be interested in conserving their hearing health.

School Safety
Armed and Ready
By using a special threat assessment computer program, Purdue University’s Homeland Security Institute has come up with a way to look at the issue of guns in schools scientifically.
[T]here are benefits to having guns in schools... At least in the case of the active shooter, our data shows it could be a lot safer with a few guns around that are there to help the police in a very constructive and measured way”
An armed response can save both, time and lives.

Law and Order
Maxim-ized
Venice, IL - A 70-year-old Vietnam Veteran fatally shot one attempted robber and seriously wounded another after he was held at gun point in Venice, Illinois on Feb, 2nd. Twenty three year old Perry Richardson and 19-year-old Billy Dickerson pulled up next to the veteran under the guise of asking for directions before pulling a firearm on the retired service member and demanding money. Fortunately, the veteran had a license to carry a concealed weapon and shot the attempted robbers: instantly killing one and wounding the other.
The maxim "Be polite, be professional, and have a plan to kill everybody you meet" works for, not only the military and police, but for every law-abiding citizen with a CCW as well.
Are you maximized?

Law and Order vs. Chaos
Here it is, 39 days into the new year, and the city of Chicago has recorded 371 people shot, including 59 killed, and 312 wounded.
This year will mark the 60th anniversary of Have Gun – Will Travel.
The American Western television series Have Gun – Will Travel, starring Richard Boone, consisted of 225 episodes that aired on CBS from September 14, 1957 through April 20, 1963.
I recall the old black and white episodes that opened dramatically with those distinctive 4 clicks from a Colt Single Action Army Revolver being cocked, followed by a view of the business end, and that pithy-but-pertinent statement by Boone who played the leading role of Paladin. Classic stuff!
Rahm needs to wire Paladin!

Law and Order
The new direction of domestic policy
Remember the TV character "Joe The Bartender?" (e.g. "Watch those swingin' doors Mr. Dennehy!") HINT: you gotta' be kinda 'old.'
I spent the better part of three decades in law enforcement. In my day, very few, if any, people went into law enforcement for the money. That changed dramatically on September 11, 2001. The last 16 or so years have seen out-of-control spending with a dramatic change in both domestic policy and the bureaucracy (e.g. 'confusion centers' influenced by the likes of the Southern Poverty Law Center).
What happened to cohesive resolution in our government? Example: 1995 State of the Union.
Aside from the fact that freedom of the press leads us to overlook the fact that the contemporary left-wing media have been, and are, an instrumental catalyst of travesty and domestic violence, "[t]he Trump administration is reportedly looking to revamp the U.S. program used to counter violent extremism in order to focus directly on Islamic extremism."
Reuters reported Thursday that the current program known as “Countering Violent Extremism” would be changed to “Countering Islamic Extremism” or “Countering Radical Islamic Extremism.” Sources told Reuters the program would no longer go after certain groups, such as white supremacists, who have also carried out violent acts across the U.S.
The move would align with Trump’s campaign vows to fight Islamic extremism and his criticisms of the Obama administration for being weak in its fight against the Islamic State.
Thanks to our new president, we seem to be making some progress in spite of all the "progressives" in our midst. Have we seen the apex of "political correctness?'
As a law-abiding American citizen, there has never been a better time to appreciate and/or enjoy our right to keep and bear arms.
Watch that swingin' pendulum Mr. Dennehy!

Supreme Court
Filling the vacancy
In a nation of laws, there are very few issues more important than the health of our Supreme Court. Yesterday, President Trump announced a nominee for the seat left vacant by the late Justice Antonin Scalia.
Following is the formal introduction of Judge Dr. Neil Gorsuch:

Some very good amplifying commentary on the nomination by Albert Mohler:
Judge Gorsuch appears to be an excellent choice in filling the shoes of Antonin Scalia, to those of us who identify with strict constructionist's and call ourselves conservative.
And now, the battle of worldview in the U.S. Senate.
