More guns — less crime
Chicago crime rate drops as concealed carry applications surge
Good practice produces good results...
Since Illinois started granting concealed carry permits this year, the number of robberies that have led to arrests in Chicago has declined 20 percent from last year, according to police department statistics. Reports of burglary and motor vehicle theft are down 20 percent and 26 percent, respectively. In the first quarter, the city’s homicide rate was at a 56-year low.
... and it even benefits those who don't seem to understand.

2nd Amendment
The Supreme refinery
On refining without infringing
The Second Amendment is having its defining moment in history. The decisions now percolating up to the Supreme Court are deciding what guns the Second Amendment covers, when requirements become infringements and more...
What Heller found is that the Second Amendment protects guns that are “in common use” and that are “typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes.”
“What’s really interesting is that from about 1900 to 1940 semiautomatic rifles were more often used by civilians than the U.S. military...
It was those guns that led to the development of the AR-15. When, in 1963, the U.S. military finally ordered 85,000 of these rifles (which would soon be dubbed the M16) Colt had already begun selling semiautomatic AR-15's to U.S. [civilians.]
Law
Across the nation, guns can be carried into more public places
More Americans can carry guns in more places than ever before. In the majority of states, law-abiding gun owners can walk into bars, restaurants and churches with their guns without fear of legal ramifications, a News 21 review of all 50 states found.
Sales numbers reported by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) show that gun ownership among females is at an all-time high.
All this is happening while the Bloomberg-funded Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is trying to convince businesses – like Kroger, Target, Chipotle, etc. – that gun bans are what moms really want.
Not all news is bad news...

2nd Amendment
A Reminder
It represents a priceless freedom won by our forefathers which few other nations enjoy.
It was important in the 18th century. And, as noted in the above article, it was important in March 1959. It is just as important today. It will always be important! It is one of the original formally affirmed 'civil rights' in this country. "It" is the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms. How can anyone say that they respect civil rights if they don't respect this one?

Civil Rights
Wicomico Co. Maryland sheriff among many who won’t enforce some gun bans
“State police and highway patrol get their orders from the governor,” the Maryland sheriff said. “I get my orders from the citizens in this county.”
It has been said before that there is nothing that will destroy a good relationship between the citizens and the police faster than a bad law. It's something that most cop's on the street learn early on, but it's something that some police administrators seem to ignore or forget. Especially prone to overlooking this fact are police administrator's that are appointed by left-wing politicians.
There are, however, some police administrator's that are directly elected by the people whom they serve; we call them Sheriff's. Recently, we have seen evidence that more and more Sheriff's are listening to their electorate when it comes to enforcing bad laws that infringe on civil rights — especially the right to keep and bear arms.
But, even the Sheriff must deal with politicians who are in denial.

Suppressors
Suppressors for Hunting in Florida
As many other states have done, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is considering adopting regulations to allow the use of suppressors in hunting, a proposal strongly supported by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) in a letter sent to the commission this week. NSSF has long supported efforts to promote the use of these hearing-saving devices. Read the NSSF Florida letter. Read the NSSF Fast Facts, Benefits of Using Suppressors for Hunting and Shooting.
It's good to see suppressors gaining in popularity. Although it's a little late to save the hearing of us 'old-timers', it comes as a major benefit to saving the hearing of younger generations. Next comes the effort to lift that foolish tax...

Aurora borealis
Photographer captures aurora borealis display
The amazing aurora light show was snapped near the town of Yellowknife, known as one of the world's finest Northern Lights watching destinations..
The flourescent [sic] bands of light are produced by the collision of charged particles from Earth's magnetosphere, mostly electrons but also protons and heavier particles, with atoms and molecules of Earth's atmosphere at altitudes above 80 km..
The particles originate from the Sun and reach the Earth in the stream of solar wind.

In the mid 1980's, about this time of year, we made a night crossing of Lake Michigan from Holland, Michigan to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and we were treated to a show similar to this, although it was a little higher in the sky and not quite this dramatic. It was still an awe inspiring event. It puts the "green flash" to shame!

Justin Bieber Ringtone Saves Russian Fisherman During Bear Attack
by Ben Romans

A brown bear recently attacked a fisherman in northern Russia but was
ultimately scared off when the man’s cell phone ringtone began playing a
Justin Bieber song, according to the Croatian Times.
Igor Vorozhbitsyn was walking to a favorite fishing spot when a bear
pounced on him from behind and began clawing and biting. At some point
in the melee, the bear likely hit Vorozhbitsyn’s cell phone and caused
the ringer to go off — the tone was Bieber's “Baby” — which wildlife
experts said likely spooked the bear.
The incident left Vorozhbitsyn with severe cuts and bruises on his face
and chest, but he was able to call other fisherman nearby for help. He’s
now recovering from his injuries.
“I couldn't believe my luck when the phone went off and he fled. I know
that sort of ringtone isn't to everyone's taste but my granddaughter
loaded it onto my phone for a joke,” he said.

Gun Safety
This should never have happened
A 5-year-old girl visiting with friends in eastern Idaho died after being shot by another 5-year-old.
In what appears to be a negligent homicide:
police say adults occupied the home at the time of the shooting but were in a different room
If "adults" would only act like adults!
