Evidence: More guns, less crime

On October 21, Pew Research Center released findings that show the annual rate of firearm-related homicides in America declined by nearly 50 percent between 1993 and 2013.

More guns in the hands of responsible law-abiding citizens results in a reduction of criminal activity.

What are you afraid of?

The Survey Says...

On October 13, Chapman University released its Survey of American Fears and revealed that more than twice as many Americans fear gun control than fear “mass shootings.”

While those on the left may scratch their heads to wonder how this could be, the facts are that gun control leads to gun-free zones, which, in turn, appear to be very popular with mass shooters.

According to Chapman University, 16.4 percent of Americans hold “mass shootings” as one of their greatest fears, while more than twice that many Americans, 36.5 percent, are “afraid” or “very afraid” of  gun control.

In April of 2015, a random sample of 1,541 adults from across the United States were asked their level of fear about eighty-eight different fears across a huge variety of topics ranging from crime, the government, disasters, personal anxieties, technology and many others.

More and more people are finally wising up to the fact that entering a "gun-free zone" increases their odds of encountering a mass-murderer. Let's hope that they carry their wisdom to the polls; that should help lower that "58% fear of government" count!

Politics

An inauspicious turn of events

We have a candidate for the nation's highest office publicly declaring that our nation's premier authority on firearm safety, the National Rifle Association (NRA), is an "enemy", while the current administration climbs into bed with Morris Dees' Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

Dees is known to be the architect of one of SPLC's most effective—and most controversial—tactics: exaggerating the prevalence and capabilities of racist and extremist rightwing groups operating in the United States in order to frighten supporters into donating money to SPLC...

JoAnn Wypijewski, who writes for the far-left Nation magazine, says: “No one has been more assiduous in inflating the profile of [hate] groups than [SPLC's] millionaire huckster, Morris Dees...

...the late left-wing journalist Alexander Cockburn in 2009 called Dees the “arch-salesman of hate-mongering,” a man who profited by “selling the notion there’s a right resurgence out there in the hinterland with massed legions of haters...

In an interview with the Boston Globe Friday, Hillary backed away from her [enemies] applause line saying it was “a little tongue in cheek” and promising that after the election she would “start trying to bring people together.”

Another example of a "tongue in cheek" comment might be: "when we see a blue haze hanging low over the Potomac River Valley, accompanied by the acrid odor of smoldering cellulite, we'll know that Trey Gowdy finally has Hillary Clinton in the hot seat before his committee investigating the death of four American's that were denied timely assistance."

Celestial Navigation

Dust off those old sextants and tables...

Recruits to the [U.S. Naval] academy in Annapolis, Maryland, have this autumn seen study of the stars return to their curriculum for the first time since it was dropped in 2006...

"Knowledge of celestial navigation in the GPS era provides a solid backup form of navigation in the event GPS becomes unreliable for whatever reason," said Captain Timothy Tisch, of the US Merchant Marine Academy...

And we'll live to regret the shutting down of the LORAN chains.

The words "I told you so" have become the banner proclamation of 'conservatives.'

Gun Control

Revealing Paradoxical Parody

This kind of revelation happens often enough to be considered typical.

In observing their absurd proposals, we have recently seen the anti-gun crowd drop the term "gun control" for the even more evasive term "gun safety." How preposterous is that? This anti-gun parody points out the need for some bona fide safety training before the anti-gunner's be allowed to get their hands on a gun.

In fact, if you closely study the gun-handling illustrated in this video, it supports the proposition that, in the interest of public safety, all left-wing anti-gun liberals should be automatically placed on the NIC's do-not-sell list. Maybe that's what the NSSF really means by "Fix NICS!"

Anyone for a real gun safety course?

Gun Control

Bad Steel: 'Those Renegade Guns'

We've seen the same lame pretense before, coming from some urban mayors who blame neighboring jurisdictions for "providing" the guns that are "flowing" into their social enclaves and being misused by outlaws.

"It's the gun's fault..." "It's their loose gun laws..." Notice how the blame is always shifted to a material item or someone else.

The latest case in point:

... and an intelligent, and logical, response:

Gun Facts Version 7.0 is Now Available

GUN-FACTS-7.0-COVER

The Gun Facts handbook debunks common myths about gun control.

It is intended as a reference guide for journalists, activists, politicians, and other people interested in restoring honesty to the debate about guns, crime, and the 2nd Amendment.

Divided into chapters based on gun control topics (assault weapons, ballistic finger printing, firearm availability, etc.), finding information is quick and easy.

Each chapter lists common gun control myths, then lists a number of documented and cited facts (with nearly 500 detailed footnotes). Thus when a neighbor, editor or politician repeats some sound bite about firearm control policy, you can quickly find that myth then rebuke with real information.

Daily Orders

You've got Point today — and tomorrow also!

My friends, the wheels are coming off this thing. The America we grew up in is dead and gone. - [Michael Bane]

In his Blog, Michael Bane goes on to comment about how "Officer Friendly" has been effectively relegated to the occupation of being an 'armed historian' or 'forensic artist' — that is, drawing chalk-lines and decorating the scene with colorful marker flags.

The law-abiding armed citizen is the first line of defense; the police secondary.

If you have been following the news, you know that Bane is correct.

Hoplophobia

Words and Reason

I coined the term "hoplophobia" in 1962 in response to a perceived need for a word to describe a mental aberration consisting of an unreasoning terror of gadgetry, specifically, weapons. The most common manifestation of hoplophobia is the idea that instruments possess a will of their own, apart from that of their user. This is not a reasoned position, but when you point this out to a hoplophobe he is not impressed because his is an unreasonable position. To convince a man that he is not making sense is not to change his viewpoint but rather to make an enemy. Thus hoplophobia is a useful word, but as with all words, it should be used correctly. - [Col. Jeff Cooper]

Most people reading this probably know the definition of the word "hoplophobia". The term was coined by the late Col. Jeff Cooper to describe the affliction of people who fear guns.

A hoplophobe is normally blind to the reality that the thing that makes a gun dangerous is not the gun itself, but the outlaw who employs the gun, and that sometimes the ONLY remedy can be achieved with another gun — in the timely possession of a law-abiding citizen. That's life. As the saying goes, freedom is not free.

The State of Florida is currently working to provide remedy for some ambiguity in our statutory law that inadvertently makes criminals out of law-abiding citizens. An explanation of the dilemma, and the reasoning, can be obtained by watching a video of the proceeding before the Florida House of Representatives Criminal Justice Sub-Committee hearing on HB-163 by Rep. Matt Gaetz held on October 6, 2015. The bill passed Committee by a vote of 8-4, but the argument includes a perfect contemporary example of hoplophobia.

Violence

Evil Incarnate

Appears to be déjà vu all over again in Oregon; disarm all the law-abiding citizens, create a kill zone for lunatics, then after they do what they surely will do without any resistance, run the flags down to half-staff, and blame guns.

We have learned to not put much weight on early news reports concerning 'murder for media' events, but it appears to be another case where a murderer planned his attack by heading for a place where he would meet the least resistance — a gun-free zone. This time though, it looks like social media provided plenty of cheerleaders.

Albert Mohler, in his Daily Briefing today, speaks to the depravity of mankind — the reason why we need guns to defend ourselves.

The State of Florida is working to get gun-free zones abolished on college campuses; the proposed law has passed out of committee and is headed downstream in the, sometimes too time-consuming, process of becoming law. None too soon...
