Baseball

Meanwhile, out at the ballpark!

Some people say that baseball isn’t exciting. Those people obviously don’t have their head in the game; something that can happen to even the player's on the field. One of the mysteries of baseball is that you never know when the spontaneous clown show is going to unfold before your very eyes.

The Cubs’ Javier Báez turned what should have been a routine third out into an RBI and two-base (via errors) hit—the hard way.

Public Safety

How to Avoid “Gun-free Zones"

It is well documented that “gun free zones” attract evil miscreants who plan mass murder. How can a person avoid these “zones” when traveling? There is no panacea, but planning your route of travel to remain in “Second Amendment Sanctuaries" could be good strategy.

A good strategic tool for avoiding the ubiquitous left-wing insanity of believing that public safety is somehow enhanced by disarming law-abiding citizens.

Seamanship

A good topic for regular review:

At The Helm: Man Overboard!

Andy Schell

“As a skipper, if the words “man overboard” don’t send icy chills down your spine, you’re probably not doing enough to prevent it from happening. You go overboard, you’re dead. Simple as that. If we get you back—well, you’ve been very, very lucky.”

I believe in the “quick stop” maneuver at sea; it needs to be practiced in various conditions, along with the routine deployment of flotation and fixing the location of the POB. The only thing that I would add to Schell’s article is to double-check that there are no loose lines in the water before using the motor to retrieve the POB; a jib sheet wrapped around the propeller would almost certainly insure a catastrophe.
