Magazines: Show a Little Respect

I cringe every time I see someone indiscriminately toss a magazine around.

It is common practice, during training, to drop an empty magazine to the ground while reaching for a full replacement. The empty magazine should hit the ground on its floor plate, resulting in no damage being done to the lips. But, if you throw a magazine around any other way, it could land in a manner that will lead to a malfunction.

When a gun jams or other firing problems occur, it is as often a cause of a malfunctioning magazine as it is shoddy ammo or actual problems with the firearms.

The magazine is an integral part of your auto-loader, and needs to be treated with respect, and kept clean — as pointed out in an article by Doug Howlett at Gun Digest.
