Marine Safety

Ride the Duck's

Yeah……and, for added excitement, watch your entire life flash before your eyes!

It’s no secret that I’m not a big fan of these type’s of operation. These amphibious vehicles are military vehicles designed for pedal-to-the-metal war fighting maneuverability where vehicle safety is a secondary issue. They are not designed for what they are being used for here. In the case of the latest “duck” sinking, Kenneth Scott McKee, 51, the captain of an amphibious duck boat that sank on a Missouri lake last July, which resulted in the deaths of 17 people, was indicted last week by a federal jury.

If you want to take your family on a waterborne excursion, please select a well-maintained, properly (USCG) inspected vessel that has watertight integrity and is designed for seaworthiness; and look the boat, the (properly licensed) crew, and the operation over before you buy your ticket. And, if you don’t get a comprehensive safety briefing before the last line is cast off, get off the boat.
